I'm using OS X 10.5.2 (Leopard) and trying to set up an external monitor with my MacBook. I've used the monitor with a desktop, and the laptop's adapter with an external LCD I used to have, and both worked. But with this setup, it's not working.
The adapter is a Mini-DisplayPort to DVI-D adapter, connected to a DVI-D to VGA adapter, connected to the VGA cable from the external monitor. I tried the same Mini to DVI-D/DVI-D to VGA setup with a different monitor, and nothing happened. The monitors are plugged in, and function with their respective desktops, but they look like they fall asleep when I plug them into my MacBook adapter rig.
I don't have any other monitors to try it with and the two I've tried so far can't use DVI cables. I really don't want to have to buy the Mini-DisplayPort to VGA adapter, so I'm posting around online to see if anybody's got any ideas. Got any?
