New iMac 27

Postby jdbiggers » Wed Jan 20, 2010 8:12 pm

After years of listening to my sister in law (works at a local Apple store) yap about ow superior Macs were to my elCheapo PCs (for example, i am writing this on a $299 Averatec All-In-One 22"), I went out and bought an iMac 27" with the i7 Nehalem processor.

It locks up quite often when brosing files or when viewing video on the Internet. The keyboard and mouse just freeze and I have to do a hard reset on the iMac.

Half the web sites and web services I have to use won't work in Safari.

Also, the video quality, despite the resoultion being nearly twice that of my Averatec, there is no noticeable difference in quality, which I assume to be the result of the 72dpi to 96 dpi difference.

None of my business applicaitons will run unless I install MS Windows (what's the point of getting a Mac if I have to run Windows anyway!). There are no Apple software application that exist in my business.

Finally, running a small C utility, a simple counter that counts to 1 billion and randmly colors a pixel, the iMac does not seem to be ANY faster than the Averatec and only about a 1/2 second faster than my very old (7 years??) HP Laptop.

Did I do something wrong? Was I supposed to do something when it first started that would have avoided these issues? I feel like I just wasted $1700...I could have bought 5 really good workstations for this one computer!

By the by, this is the SECOND one I had. Keys fell off the keyboard on the first one, so I didn't even start that one up and returned it for the current one...great quality control in China!

Very Unsatisfied:
